Ep. 240 | The Lies of Submission

By Francie Winslow

God’s design for marriage is beautiful — a picture of mutual love, service, and trust. It’s meant to be a place where both husband and wife flourish, each bringing their full selves in a relationship marked by care, honor, and unity.

At the heart of that design is submission. But not the kind many of us were taught.

If you grew up in Christian circles, especially those shaped by conservative or evangelical culture, the word submission may carry tension. Maybe it was presented as a one-way street. Maybe it meant you needed to stay quiet, make yourself small, or hide your strength. Maybe it made you question your voice, your intuition, even your worth.

In this week’s episode of the Female by Design podcast, we’re unpacking The Lie of Submission — not to throw out biblical design and order, but to reclaim it from the distortions that have hurt so many women.

Here’s what we explore:

  • The biblical vision of submission as mutual, honoring, and rooted in love.

  • How misinterpretations of Scripture have silenced or diminished women.

  • Why true submission never requires you to disappear.

  • The connection between submission, voice, and sexuality.

  • How marriage can become a space of shared strength, not power imbalance.

When submission is rooted in God’s design, it doesn’t erase your voice.
It makes room for your full presence.
It doesn’t weaken you.
It invites you into strength — together.

This episode is an invitation to ask:
What have I been taught about submission?
Is it aligned with God’s heart — or with human tradition?
And what might it look like to walk in freedom, strength, and mutual honor in my home?

You were created to bring life.
To speak with wisdom.
To move in strength.
And to partner in love that reflects the heart of Christ.
